Candidate Ben's Platform

By Anchor Roman Conway

Candidate Ben was seen to have rose to the top of the polls after the results came in on Monday. He gained an overwhelming 47% amongst citizens, seemingly leaving the other two candidates fighting for a lifeline.

BBR starts off his education platform writing that his campaign team “promises that government funding for public schools will not be significantly reduced.” Although this aligns with his Republican views, Ben seems to sympathize with Democratic voters by suggesting that the drawbacks will not be major. He offers a settlement by writing how funding, although being taken away by the government, can be replaced by private companies. In this instance, BBR seems to tailor toward both sides of the political spectrum while still pushing for his Republican agenda. In BBRs Education platform, he suggests that his idea of a “flat, fair, and friendly” income tax would be better for the economy, and that a graduated tax would do nothing for the economy. However, a graduated income tax that “imposes a lower tax rate on low-income earners compared to those with higher income,” may have the same effect as BBR’s proposed tax. Ben makes a possible fallacy when he assumes that giving tax breaks and subsidies to companies will encourage them to switch to green energy. Assuming that these actions will encourage companies to switch to green energy, is not only a non-sequitur,(an illogical conclusion following a previous statement or evidence) but risky for the agencies tasked at distributing the capital when it comes time. Despite this, the possibility that green energy will become profitable in the future seems promising based on the evidence provided.

In the health care platform, BRR does a thorough job of stating the problem at hand with the ACA. His solution is sensible given the information provided.

The main takeaway from the foreign policy platform is that the U.S, given its current state, needs to regain ties with other nations. BRR wants to focus on maintaining strategic positions in the Middle East. He also has an idea of cyber operations, which seems effective given his overall situation. BBR finally suggests becoming independent of China by “seeking new markets,” which is not fully explained in the platform. That could indeed be a daunting task.
