This week was an important one with the first candidate and surrogate debates. Overall, the points made by the candidates were informative and matched their campaign platforms but the debate started to dry up after they repeated their points over and over to the point of exhaustion. The main topic of the debate was environmental policy. In the wake of environmental crisis, this seems like an appropriate issue to address. The candidates all offered their stances on how they would address the issue with Ben focusing on giving subsidies to private companies in order to encourage the innovation of “green tech”, Jack punishing companies through a carbon tax, and Bella initiating a “green new deal” which she had trouble explaining the actual application of it or what it actually was. The candidates all took the issue seriously but Bella’s passion was palpable in the urgent and intense way she spoke about her administration’s policies. For the first time the idea of a policies viability in congress was brought into question with Bella’s extreme and uncompromising plan being critiqued by fellow Democrat, Governor Jack. The next issue brought up in the debate was the candidates economic and tax reform policies. Similar to the beginning of the debate the candidates found a hard time explaining the feasibility of their policies in ways that wouldn’t make them sound like a broken record. Policies regarding tax reform were more traditional to each candidate political affiliation and it seemed that only Ben’s policy had somewhat of a new idea. The surrogate debate was more of the same from the candidate debate with each surrogate simply stating their policy and a brief explanation as to why it was the best. The lack of time given hindered the ability of the surrogates to engage in an actual debate and left more to be desired from the surrogates ability to back up their claims.

Following these debates, the media team gave its endorsement to Republican Candidate Ben, given his strong rebuttals, clear ideals, and overall presence.
Following the Democratic Debate that was just held, Candidate Bella was chosen as the favorable candidate over Senator Jack. Now Bella and Ben will go head to head in the general election. Stay tuned to uncover who will win the presidency, as voting day is just around the corner....
