Candidate Bella's Platform

By Journalist Zach Safford

Bella's platform covers the five largest areas of concern to the American public. Below is an analysis on her stance with each topic:

Education: Bella’s stance on education is based on the idea of imposing federal subsidies on public education, in order to provide equity for the underprivileged and impoverished. She emphasizes the need for a more holistic learning experience rather than the past precedent of teaching towards a test which was encouraged under the No Child Left Behind Act, as schools that failed to improve test scores were penalized. Bella’s plan clearly outlines paths of action and allows for future expansion and adaptation to support the needs of the future. It will be interesting to see how her plan plays out if elected.

Foreign policy: Candidate Bella wants to withdraw the United States’ aid to nations such as Israel and Suadi Arabia whose militaristic actions in the Middle East would not have been possible without U.S. assistance. Bella puts most of the responsibility on the government alone to come up with “fierce regulations” to Arms sales and take “definitive action,” however, she doesn’t outline specific ways to end foreign aid in the Middle East, nor does she provide any information as to how she will lead the U.S. away from involvement in the Middle East.

Tax Reform: Bella like many other Democratic candidates proposes new taxes targeted at the top 1%. This would not only create a “fair” tax for the uber-wealthy but also serve to fund other aspects of her campaign focused on increasing government spending. She has a clear idea of what those taxes would look like and has given preliminary asset values to which the wealthy would be taxed under her administration. While Bella’s plan seems solid, it certainly isn’t a new concept to tax the rich. Past politicians running on the basis of taxing the top percent have failed to get their policies passed into legislature when elected. It will be interesting to see what she will do to bring her ideas into play.

Affordable Care Act: Candidate Bellas’ plans for the complete reconstruction of U.S. Healthcare are ambitious, but do they have the possibility to succeed? Her policy is under the assumption that she will receive the necessary support to introduce increased taxes on the mega-wealthy. If passed, her plan would be extremely beneficial to U.S. citizens by providing for nearly all of their medical needs. It also would control big pharmaceutical pricing, which not only makes buying drugs easier for the average citizen but puts less strain on the medical economy. National Healthcare has seen great success in nations like Canada, Switzerland, and Germany. Even though the United States is considerably different from an economic and cultural standpoint, it wouldn’t be too far off to see an effective U.S. Healthcare system in the future.

Environment: Bella has placed environmental issues as one of her top priorities in her campaign. She plans to move the U.S. away from non-renewable energy sources and towards nuclear energy. While most people can agree on the idea of reducing/gradually eliminating the use of non-renewable energy, the process is easier said than done. Bella’s campaign needs to elaborate more specifically on how she will go about bringing change to the U.S.’s carbon footprint.
